Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgeon
Guy Slater was appointed as an NHS consultant surgeon in 2004, specialising in laparoscopic gastro-intestinal surgery including weight loss or obesity surgery.
His NHS practice is at St. Richard's Hospital, Chichester, part of the Western Sussex NHS Trust. He practices privately in Sussex, Guildford, Harrow and London.
Weight loss Surgery or obesity surgery, including laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB), roux en-y gastric bypass surgery (LRYGB) and sleeve gastrectomy can provide a permanent weight control solution for severely obese individuals. Streamline Surgical is a company that I formed with Shaw Somers in 2006 that specialises in obesity surgery. Together, we brought together a team of specialist surgeons, anaesthetists dieticians, nurses and psychologists to deliver the best care possible.
Guy Slater specialised in keyhole or laparoscopic surgery, during his surgical training, recognising the marked advantages it has over conventional surgery. In time, the majority of gastro-intestinal operations will be done this way.
Laparoscopic surgery offers short and long-term advantages. In the long-term, using laparoscopic surgery to avoid a large abdominal incision, reduces the incidence of large incisional hernias and abdominal wall failure, which can be very difficult to manage.
